Ghee in your coffee? We know, it sounds a bit odd the first time you hear it. Then you try it. Blended properly, coffee with ghee comes out creamy, frothy and rich, a bit like a latte without the milk. It keeps you going through the morning, it's kind to your tummy, and it fits neatly into keto and low-carb routines. Here's everything you need to know, including how to make the perfect cup.
What is ghee coffee?
Ghee coffee is simply brewed coffee blended with a little ghee until it turns smooth and frothy. You might have heard it called bulletproof coffee, keto coffee or butter coffee (when it's made with butter instead). Same idea, different names.
Why ghee rather than butter? Because the milk solids have been cooked off. That means OMGhee has no lactose, a cleaner taste and a lovely nutty, caramel note that works beautifully with coffee.

Is ghee coffee easier on your stomach?
For a lot of people, yes. Black coffee on an empty stomach can leave you feeling acidic and jittery. Blending in a little ghee softens that, so your morning cup feels gentler. Ghee also contains butyric acid, a short-chain fatty acid that the cells lining your gut use for fuel. We've written more about it in our guide to the health benefits of ghee.
Who is ghee coffee good for?
Ghee in coffee is a great fit if you:
- Are lactose intolerant: OMGhee is lactose free, so you get the creaminess without the dairy drama.
- Eat keto or paleo: it's pure fat with zero carbs, so it fits your macros.
- Practise intermittent fasting: many people have it during their eating window, or use it to stretch the morning until lunch. (Strictly speaking, any calories end a fast, so it depends on how you fast.)
- Want a slower morning energy: fat with your coffee means a steadier ride than a sugary latte and a pastry.

How do you make ghee coffee at home?
You need two ingredients and about two minutes. That's it.
You'll need:

- ½ teaspoon of OMGhee, building up to a full teaspoon once you're used to it
- Optional: a pinch of cinnamon, nutmeg or cardamom
Method:
- Brew your coffee and pour it, piping hot, into a blender.
- Add the ghee and any spices you fancy.
- Blend on high for 15 to 20 seconds until it's frothy and looks like a latte.
- Pour and enjoy straight away, while it's hot and foamy.

Do you really need a blender?
It makes the biggest difference. If you just stir ghee into coffee, it melts and floats on top as a golden film. Blending breaks it into tiny droplets so it mixes right through, giving you that creamy, latte-style texture. A countertop or stick blender works best. A handheld milk frother does a decent job too if that's what you've got in the cupboard.
Which spices go best with ghee coffee?
Cinnamon is the classic, warm and a little sweet without any sugar. Nutmeg gives you a cosy, almost Christmassy cup. Cardamom adds a gentle, citrusy lift that pairs beautifully with ghee's nutty flavour. Many people also find a pinch of spice takes the edge off those coffee jitters. Add it before blending and it'll mix in smoothly.

What are the benefits of coffee with ghee?
Swapping a carb-heavy brekkie for a ghee coffee is one of the simplest changes you can make to your morning. Here's why people stick with it.
Steady energy without the crash
Fat slows things down. Pairing your caffeine with a little ghee means a smoother, longer-lasting lift, rather than the spike and slump you get from a muffin and a sugary flat white. Many people find it keeps them full well into the late morning.
Support for your gut and immune system
Ghee is a natural source of butyric acid. As well as fuelling the cells that line your gut, butyrate plays a role in supporting a healthy immune response. A daily ghee coffee is an easy way to get a little more of it.
Fat-soluble vitamins from grass-fed ghee
Ghee made from grass-fed butter, like OMGhee, contains fat-soluble vitamins A, E and K2, plus conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). Vitamin E and vitamin A both act as antioxidants in the body, helping to protect your cells from everyday wear and tear.
